Structural Waterproofing

Capillary moisture in and below walls (W4-E)

Structure MB 2K.jpg

As established in Eurocode 6 (DIN EN 1996) since 2012, structural waterproofing that complies with DIN 18533 must now be able to break down vertical and horizontal loads without damage. Based on the shear resistance of the connection between floor plate and raised brickwork, it has been found that crack bridging, mineral sealing mortars are excellent for this area of application.

In order to meet the requirements of the standards and also guarantee a high degree of reliability, Remmers recommends our product MB 2K+. This hybrid product not only demonstrates excellent adhesion bonding to mineral building materials, it is also 3 times as dimensionally stable as the standard requires thanks to the unique rubber granulate filling material technology.

Structural waterproofing on floor slabs

As established in 2012 in Eurocode 6 (DIN EN 1996), structural waterproofing must also be able to remove both vertical and horizontal design loads without damage, in accordance with DIN 18533. Based on the shear resistance of the connection between floor plate and raised brickwork, it has been found that crack bridging, mineral sealing mortars are excellent for this area of application. The combination of the special Kiesol MB primer and the MB 2K mineral sealant perfectly meets this condition and also offers optimum protection against capillary rising moisture.

1 Preliminary work

  • Remove the adhesion-inhibiting components with a steel brush and sander.

2 Priming

  • Apply Kiesol MB evenly. Pre-wet heavily absorbent subsurfaces with water.

3 First waterproofing layer

  • Apply the first waterproofing layer of MB 2K+ evenly as a joint onto the inside to a thickness of approx. 50 mm.

4 Second waterproofing layer

Block waterproofing - special solution with optimum protection

To eliminate moisture during the early stage of the construction phase, we recommend completely waterproofing the first layer of the basement wall. MB 2K+ is exactly the right material. MB 2K+ can not only be used to create structural seals, it can also be used to prevent moisture penetration from the rear. Annoying waiting times or complicated layer structures are therefore a thing of the past.

Interior Waterproofing

For dry and watertight usable cellars

43169.jpg

Time is money! It is therefore worthwhile opting for fast solutions for cellar rooms used as cellars. Solutions that do not aim for maximum (living) comfort but efficient completion times. The Remmers repellent mortar delivers this solution. In cellars that are purely used as cellars, the product can be used in combination with the capillary filler iQ-Top SLS alternatively to the classic Kiesol system comprising grouts and high-performance restoration render.

Application examples

  • A system solely for usable rooms with normal moisture levels because moisture sorption through a capillary-active filler is only reliably possible at low temperatures or vapour pressure gradients

  • Store rooms, stock rooms, garages, bicycle cellars

Properties

  • Fibre-reinforced water-permeable render

  • Tested up to 2.5 bar (this corresponds to a 25 m water column!)

  • Considerably higher speed because denseness and equalisation through one product

Advantages

  • Special system for basements

  • Efficient model thanks to less and simple work steps

  • Equalisation and sealing only with repellent mortar

1 Surface treatment

  • Remove older render and coats up to 80 cm above the damage zone and scratch out damaged joints 2 cm deep.

2 Priming

  • Apply Kiesol (1:1 with water) evenly. Pre-wet heavily absorbent subsurfaces with water.

3 Bonding course

  • Apply the Kiesol bonding course made of WS Sulfatex with the wide brush within the response time.

4 Sealing cove

  • Apply WP Top [basic] with a tight cove trowel “wet-on -wet” in the transition area between the wall/floor.

5 Equalisation

  • Equalise all unevenness with WP Top [basic] in a wet-on-wet method.

6 Sealing layer

  • Apply a water proofing layer of approx. 20 mm made of WP Top [basic] in the roughened equalisation. Roughen the adequately stiffened surface to improve the grip of the subsequent filler.

7 Surface finish

  • Apply a layer of iQ-Top SLS of approx. 5 mm after 2 – 7 days.

Excellent reliability for high-quality use

For the purposes of ensuring quality and durability, careful preparation of the surface is essential. The WTA information sheet 4-6-12/D contains extensive advice here. Thanks to the interaction of individual system modules, such as surface pre-treatment/strengthening, inner water proofing, horizontal impervious layer and energy-adapted protection systems, it is possible to create high-quality usable housing in old cellars.

External Waterproofing

Waterproofing below ground level (W1-E / W2-E)

Exterior MB 2K.jpg

The new version of the standard now approves crack-bridging mineral waterproofing mortars MWGS's for waterproofing concrete surfaces for water ingress class W1-E. For this application, MB 2K+ can be applied in compliance with the standard pursuant to PG MWG.

Since MB 2K+ not only meets the guidelines for crack-bridging MWG, but testing has proved that the product also meets the properties of the PMBCs. This flexible, polymer-modified coating also covers areas of application outside the standard. With a specification, the material can now be used as waterproofing against water ingress class W1-E and W2-E regardless of the substrate.

External waterproofing below ground with Remmers System Guarantee

Reliability, fast and easy processes along with short waiting times are the most important aspects that a modern waterproofing system has to fulfil. Lots of professionals want to complete the waterproofing work in one day and continue working the next day. Remmers waterproofing systems perfectly meet these requirements. In combination with the Remmers System Guarantee (RSG), we not only offer the best possible product system for below ground waterproofing , but also twice the reliability. For correct installation in the RSG system, certified RSG companies only need to provide the statutory stipulated adhesion of 5 years (BGB contract) and/or 4 years (VOB/B contract). The extended guarantee for a total of 10 years will be assumed to 100% by Remmers. The greatest advantage for the processing specialist company: The 10-year system guarantee has an exclusive advantage for the installer.

1 Preparation

  • Round off the edges of the projecting part of the foundation. Remove any components that reduce adhesion.

2 Levelling

  • Smooth unevenness and flaws > 5 mm with WP DS Levell. Pre-wet heavily absorbent subsurface with water.

3 Priming

  • Apply Kiesol (1:1 with water) evenly. Pre-wet heavily absorbent substrates with water. Leave out uneven areas.

4 Waterpoofing layer

  • Apply a layer of WP DC [basic] evenly with a mortar or wide brush.

The most economical solution for concrete basements

MB 2K+ is unique thanks to its multi-functionality and system efficiency. This is mainly due to the rapid and weather-independent drying of the material and the associated shorter construction times, and also the relatively low material consumption. A dry layer of 3 mm without a fabric insert is enough to waterproof even those parts that have contact with the ground standing in ground water. Compared to conventional systems where a layer thickness of 4 mm is required; this saves on material and omits any steps for embedding reinforcement fabric. Spray applying MB 2K+ is especially effective.

High-quality cellar waterproofing with PMBC

Since the introduction of the new water proofing standard in July 2017, polymer modified, bituminous thick coating (PMBCs) like Remmers PBD 1K / 2K, can also be used as a water proofing against outside water pressure (W2.1-E). Until now this was only possible outside the standard if there is a special agreement. In contrast, the product requirements for PMBCs have not changed and are also defined by the harmonised substance norm DIN EN 15814 throughout Europe. Products that are used as transitions to WU concrete structures also require a ‘test certificate from the construction supervising authority for the general transition to WU concrete constructions’ (AbP) pursuant to PG-ÜBB in addition to the European specifications (CE symbol). PMBCs are generally applied with a trowel. Alternatively, the material can also be applied with system-compatible machine technology. Regardless of the application procedure, ensure that the dry layers comply with the current water proofing norm.
